'March to the Volga' by D. Philipp Kaiser (Print & All Ebook formats) Christoph Karl Family of Lõwenstein, Germany

March to the Volga is the first of ten novels spinning the story of ten different German families as they leave Germany for the Volga Colonies. It follows the Christoph Karl and Jacobina Maurer family of Lõwenstein, Germany, and their descendants’ lives for over a century along with their final emigration in the 1890’s to America. In this tale, it is 1764 in a land far different from Germany today, a land of feudal princes and religious zealots. The Seven Years’ War is over, but the religious atrocities of the long past Thirty Years’ War are still in the minds of all. No tolerance at this time; the Catholics and Protestants openly hate each other. Christoph and Jacobina, a Lutheran country couple, along with a strange new city friend, slowly travel from village Heilbronn north to Lübeck, towards the “Promised Land.” Sailing to Russia, and walking across much of it, the couple is there to build the Balzer Colony. Over the next 130 years, they and their many descendants carve out a bountiful life, before again moving on to a new “Promised Land,” AMERICA.  I sincerely hope you enjoy it as a fictional story; but remember, this is fiction and fantasy, and not a research manual, and you should not assume any of it true. Some of it is, much of it is not! Hopefully, reading it may spark some questions about your own ancestors. Even better, it might help you think about GOD, from who these amazing people got their strength to overcome all obstacles. (Available in Print & all eBooks in English & German)

Nightmare In Warenburg

'Nightmare in Warenburg' by D. Philipp Kaiser (Only in Kindle and Lulu eBooks) Nightmare in Warenburg is a short story developed for my novel Dreams on the Volga. While it is similar to what is in my novel, it has been expanded here with more character development and detail. The story is set in June 1774 southern Russia in the Volga Colony of Warenburg along the Volga River, some sixty-nine verst (about forty-six miles) south of Saratov. Warenburg was one of the 101 colonies established and built by Deutsche emigrating to this area of Russia. They were there by the Grace of GOD, and the Grace of Catherine the Great, Empress of all Russia. At this time, Warenburg was the home of 579 souls, of which there were 326 men and boys, and 253 women and girls, all devout Christians of either the Lutheran Faith, the Reformed Faith, or the Katholische Faith. As this story begins, Daniel Andreas, and wife Anna Maria Köhler have been happily living with their two sons in the Volga Colony of Warenburg (City of Goods) since 1767, or about eight years. RUN! PUGACHOV is COMING!!!

'Run! Pugachov is coming!!!' by D. Philipp Kaiser (Only in Kindle and Lulu eBooks)

RUN! PUGACHOV IS COMING!!! is a short story developed for my novel March to the Volga. While it is similar to what is in my novel, it has been expanded here with more character development and detail. This story is set in southern Russia in the Volga Colonies of Balzer and Beideck along the Volga River, some sixty verst (about thirty-six miles), south of an already ravaged Saratov. It is the year 1774 in a land far different from the modern Russia of today, a land ravaged by robber gangs and nomadic tribes. Here the masses of poor and disillusioned search for, and eventually find, a charismatic leader in Tsar Peter III (Ivanovich Pugachov), and follow him in supposedly striking back at the evil rich, but actually striking back at their own kind. As this story begins, Christoph Karl and Jacobina Maurer have been happily living with their four-year-old son and six-year-old daughter in the Volga Colony of Balzer since 1765, or about nine years.
